The Cold

You were my world,
My one and only
But when you left
A bitter, wintry cold engulfed my heart

You were my sun
And as you faded,
I could feel the frost surrounding me
Freezing me

You left me, standing there
In the silent, blue cold
The snow fell merrily, but my tears fell
Slowly, sadly

You were gone
As quickly as
My cold, silver breath
As it evaporates into the air, leaving me with nothing

How I longed to be with you
Again
So I followed you,
Prolonging the cold

After searching
I found you

By the creek we used to swim at
Where we used to laugh,
And I would gaze at you
Mystified

But the water was freezing and icy
The plants surrounding it brittle and dead,
The big rocks in its depths were shining with ice, half engulfed with the freezing water
Void of all life

You saw me, and turned to me
Your cheeks red and your skin warm
I staggered forward,
I threw myself into your arms

My body was engulfed in your radiating warmth
Slowly you put your arms around me, too
Your small body gripping me
I didn't want to let you go, I didn't want to watch you fade away like my icy breath

The cold was gone
You smiled at me,
But
You stared at me, your eyes pitying

You knew I would come back for you
You knew I would plead, beg,
For your love
For you to love me

But the cold engulfed me again
It consumed me
It turned me into someone I'm not
Creating icy fury

I grabbed your scarf
I pulled you close, tightening my grip
I threw you aside like a rag doll
You tried to scream, but I was too quick

I covered your face with my gloved hand
Your eyes were wide, staring up at me, fearful
Your head was near the edge of the water
And looking at you,

I smashed your head against one of the rocks
Your eyes widened and you tried to scream
I smashed your head again,
Again

Until I could see your blood, crimson and shining on my glove
Your eyes were beginning to shut,
You were fading in and out, but you tried looking at me
And barely a whisper escaped your lips,
"I'm sorry..."
And you covered my lips with yours,
Before falling back against the rock
And plunging into the icy depths

And the cold engulfed me
My scream pierced the still air
And I fell flat onto the snow-covered ground
And I slid into the icy depths
To be with you
